From 2012 Viking Window offers windows and doors with glazing equipped with the energy efficient warm edge spacer bar (SGG Swisspacer) as a standard solution.* SGG Swisspacer (SWS) is a spacer bar in glazing unit which is made of special plastic thus having lower thermal trnsmittance values. This helps us to reduce heat loss from the edges of the glass unit (Figure 1), and lowers the rist of condensation on inner glazing perimeter (see Figure 3).
Insulated glazing units are composed of glass sheets (see Figure 2. #1) connected with the scpacer bar and sealed hermetic with special sealant (see Figure 2 #2). The gas between glasses (usually Argon) provides lower thermal conductance.
Traditionally aluminium is used as main material to manufacture spacer bars for glazing units. Since aluminium is a very effective heat transfer agent a cold bridge forms in glazing edge area. SGG Swisspacer is mainly made of plastic which has 1000 times smaller heat transfer coefficient than aluminum and the glazing perimeter becomes some degrees warmer - that's why it is called warm edge solution.
The advantages of using SGG Swisspacer in window construction:
- Improved energy efficiency throug smaller heat loss;
- The warm edge solution helps to reduce the risk of condensation.
* An exception is the corner window solution. It's not possible to construct this kind of solution with SGG Swisspacer. As a warm edge solution we recommend stainless steel spacer bars. It also strongly suggested to consult with the architect and your sales representative before any desicions are made to use corner window.
